Tribute to Chicago
The band was formed in Hamilton, Ontario, January 1985.
Originally known as Powerhouse, the mandate was to cover
rhythm & blues and soul numbers form the late 60’s. A
three-piece rhythm section backed four-piece horns. As the
band matured and the arrangements became more complex,
Tower of Power and Blood, Sweat and Tears numbers crept into
the song list. By the early nineties, the band had added a
keyboard player and the eight-piece unit was firmly into their rock
‘n blues identity. The song list covered everything from Three
Dog Night to James Cotton.
The inevitable personal changes that all bands endure have
been kind to Chicago Transit. Each change added more
experience, diversity and vocal ability. Of the eight members in
the band, there are now four lead vocalists and four on back up.
Everyone has a vocal mic. Together, there are over 200 years of
musical experience.
“We copied the arrangements intact. We didn’t try to change
anything. We tried a couple of Chicago tunes in our Powerhouse
song list. They went over so well, we added more…then more.”
By the summer of 1994, there was enough material for a
complete show. Thus, Chicago Transit was born
